Hi all from the UK,
bought my CL77 (1967) back end of last year, has been restored but there is a problem starting from cold, when I can get it started it is only on one pot the other coming in when I play with the choke, it also back fires on that side when trying to start it , when its hot it starts and runs just fine, it has been fitted with electronic ignition so I am thinking may be the carb, any advice will be welcome, now the better weather is here I really want to ride it.
cheers

Starting Problem
It doesn't hurt to check everything and compare things side to side. You say that it is only one cylinder that is troublesome so you are looking for differences in ignition timing, tappet clearance, carburation.
The 'cold start' system is just a choke on each cylinder. The two chokes are connected by a linkage which may be out of adjustmant. Backfiring could be a timing issue on the one cylinder or it could be a mixture problem. Again, ther easiest way is to compare one cylinder's setup with the other.
Sometimes removing the plug caps and trimming 1/4 inch off the lead can have good effects.

These engines will run when you can get them hot and have several tuning area's wrong.
Check EVERY adjustment on the problem side as these engines once warm will run quite well on one cylinder. ............lm

spocky wrote:Hi G Thanks for the reply, because the bike runs well when hot I thought the timing and carb settings must be ok maybe something to do with cold start part of the carb, the choke works ok and there is no back fire when hot .G-Man wrote:Have you checked the timing? Carb settings? Jets?
