Hello form the UK & Seat Pan....Frame Question

Post by Deltablues » Wed Jun 17, 2015 5:56 pm

Hi All, been hanging around hear for a few weeks reading up on my project, great resource so far but I like to say Hello and pose my first question to the Forum

I've come across a problem with my CL77, apart from some stuff that's missing, I have a problem with the seat fitting, this bike came as a part finished project but it seems the PO has purchased the wrong seat for this model, my frame has the square fitting on the frame but the pan I have fits the bar mounting, does anyone know when this changed? I've some other bits missing but that can all wait.......for a bit anyway

DB

Welcome to the Forum. The parts manual will probably show the changeover but my two CL72 projects have the bar fitting and my CL77s have the rubber mount. I would guess around '65.

CMS list the cutoff for teh early type at Frame Number 1033481

The later type should be easier to find .....

I agree with that frame number for the change-over. Very late '66 and all of '67 production. If you need to rebuild your seat........that front mount could be removed and replaced with the earlier design. A little grinding.........a little welding..........nice new paint..........then install the cushion and cover/trim to look like new.

If you happen to locate an earlier pan........be sure to check the rear legs for length. The CL72 pan looks the same but the legs are shorter. Those pans will touch the steel fender and may contact the battery.

Hi if anyone has it I need the part number, or a page from a later CL77 parts list showing the later rubber mount, I've now got hold of the correct seat for the frame but the rubber is missing, I was given the wrong seat and we've now swapped them as he is doing a CL72.

Correction to my above post............the late CL77 seat legs are shorter than earlier models........the later models have rubber bushings taking up the space.
