For those of you wishing to make your own rear shock-covers.
Mine weren't too good, ( plastic split ) so I looked around for steel tube, but I only needed a few inches & couldn't buy small amounts, looking around my local DIY store ( B & Q in the UK )
I found 60mm thin-wall bolt-on table legs, SPOT-ON !!
I'm often to be found lingering around various shops/stalls looking a 'junk' wondering 'what can I use that for' !!

Excellent work! Girling covers work well too (with a little internal spacer to centre the spring) but yours is a much more satisfying solution. :-)
This is a CL77 damper I restored and converted from crimped to screw construction.

Thanks for sharing.....

Sorry I didn't reply. somehow missed this!!
Yes, I welded the top plate, I mig-welded it, turned it right down & then did a 'tack' then another & so on until it was all around, then cleaned it up on the belt-linisher.
Next job, cut out a cardboard template & make the chain-guard!!
