I GOT IT! I GOT IT!
I scoped the ignition primary and everything looked good - no missing pulses at any speed - so I dug out my old timing light (which hasn't been used in over 20 years) and found that the timing was WAY advanced, almost 30 degrees, even though I had set the static timing dead on. I had to twist the magnetic 'top hat' quite a bit to get the idle timing back to where it should be and when that was done, everything was running A-okay, even on a test ride. WAHOO!!!!
Time to get some riding in before it gets too cold and get the engine broken in and then we're ready to tear it all down and get it painted before spring.

You just proved again the statement we used in the 60's.
"Your carb problem is in direct proportion to the misadjustment of the points". .....................lm

I always time to "F" right side then check the left side for match at "F".
Left may be a couple degrees one way or the other. ..............................lm
