VIN vs. Engine number

Post by mrussett » Wed Dec 30, 2015 2:19 pm

Question for you all, I just purchased a 305 dream with a title... but on the title the VIN #(CA78-1...) is actually the engine number (CA77E...) :/ so somebody along the lines screwed up and didn't catch it. Is the title still valid or do I need to somehow have that retitled?

Nothing wrong with vin as it is to your frame number not your engine.
That 77/78 change came when HONDA decided to denote the US bikes. ...............llm

Not sure i understand your answer. My Indiana title has the engine # down as the VIN #... is that ok?

Do any numbers on the title match any numbers on the bike?
If so you are good. ...................lm

Yes, the engine # that is listed as the VIN is matching.

Having an engine number for a VIN happens on occasion. You should be alright at the DMV. That's the way mine is on my CA78. Harley Davidson used engine numbers for the VIN up until around 1970.
