DIY Valve Seat Cutting?
DIY Valve Seat Cutting?Has anybody here cut their own valve seats for the CA77? It looks easy enough, and I'm considering getting one of those Neway seat cutting kits rather than paying $100 a pop...is it worth it?
And more importantly, what size cutters do I need? -John 1964 CA77 1964 CA78 1963 CA95 1985 Virago 700 1980 CB125S John
I have a set of Neway cutters and they are very satisfying to work with. They are quite expensive so you aren't going to save much by doing just one head. As for sizes - I'd have to check. ![]() G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

Hey, Gman! Long time...!
So, are those the two types you use to cut the seats on a 305 Dream? I Did have the seats reground, but the long-time mechanic I had do it never used a cutter, just a grinder...is there a difference? I did find a couple Neway cutter set-ups online, but as you say they are rather pricey - but I figure with the number of bikes in the garage it would be nice to have the technology available at my fingertips, so I'm exploring which one would be the best one to have on hand, a cutter or a grinder.
Re: DIY Valve Seat Cutting?I do them with HONDA broaches and if I need to remove a bunch of outer seat I use my SIOUX tools.
I was lucky to get them years ago.............lm

I used to have my Triumph seats done using a grindstone and managed to make something similar when I restored a Honda 50 engine years ago. The ones in the picture are the ones I use for CB72-77 engines. I have some Honda cutters for several engine types but I like using the Neway ones. The blades are Tungsten carbide, adjustable and replaceable. G
