Seat Differences?

Hi everyone - I have a question about the seats on the CA77's - were they the same throughout the Dream's production run, or are there differences in the front, where they attach to the bike frame?

I have a 1964 CA77 305 that does not allow the gas tank to sit fully on the frame when the seat is installed, and vice-versa - the seat is about a half-inch too long to put the tank on, or, conversely, a half-inch too short to put the seat on when the tank is installed properly -
so I'm wondering if it is the correct seat...?

The seat attachment on this seat looks like the right one, but instead of the usual forks is closed and rounded and has a bolt going through them that goes through the bikes' mounting bolt and holds it on that way, as opposed to the fork-type I have seen that just slides onto the mounting bolts...is this correct? It looks kind of like the seat to a Sears Allstate, but it's not.

I would attach a pic but I don't have one available right now - but I thought I'd ask. I'm wondering if the PO I got it from somehow mixed up the seats?? Or is there a trick to installing the seat and tank?

Early bikes have a rounder front which locates with the early gas tank.

Hey G-man, thanks for getting back to me...

Yes, that Does look like the seat I'm dealing with - so, from what I can see from the picture, do I have to really Cram the seat and/or the tank together in order to get it to fit? Or is the tank on the Early models different than the Late models? I may be trying to put a Late tank on an Early Dream...would that make a difference?

I picked the bike up from somebody who was just trying to get rid of it and didn't really know what it was; I have finally gotten around to trying to do something with it and just want to make sure all the parts fit before I keep going with restoration efforts.

And Where did you find that bike? Is that the latest restoration effort?

Hi John,
As you say it seems as if you are trying to put an early seat with a late tank. This is the seat that fits my 66 Dream. If your seat is round at the front and not forks that fix either side of two nuts then you have thee early seat.

This is the early seat that fits the more rounded tank, A few photos would be good.

Yeah, I get that...it just seems weird that Honda would make such a difference in the tanks since the frame construction is essentially the same for it's whole production run.

I just finished titling the Dreams I have, and based on engine and frame serial numbers it IS an Early model - 1963, to be exact; but it came with a Late tank on it, so I guess short of finding a 1960-63 tank, I'll try to modify it and make it fit. It won't be period correct, but the untrained eye will never know the difference, and I don't plan on showing it anyway, just riding it. It's going to be a pain, though - It's only off by about 10mm!
