Bogs Down & Backfires Just Off Idle

Post by carlluvscorinne » Wed Apr 11, 2007 1:42 pm

Hi All,

Started the 1964 CB77 for the first time, used Bill Silvers book to set carb and timing and points. Bike idles fine, but when you crack the throttle it bogs right down and backfires though the carb. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Carl

Carl, Have you checked your fuel valve and lines to the carbs. and just generally made sure your getting a good supply of fuel to carbs? If thats OK I'd check my float levels. Question; Is it just one side or both that backfire? I really think like L.M. suggests look at the carbs again. Good Luck! Steve Greer

Hi Guys,

Rebuilt both carbs using keyster carb kits, installed new factory floats, being very careful to set them at 22 mm. Right now running it off a gas can, fuel flow seems great. Bike starts right up and runs fine until about 1600 rpm. I will look into carbs again. Thanks, Carl
