Clutch help needed

Post by prima5star » Tue Oct 11, 2005 9:52 pm

I was having trouble getting my clutch to adjust correctly so I took the business side apart and imagine that... the two retaining rings that hold the first two metal clutch plates are missing. I pulled my parts engine apart and those are gone too!!!

Anyone have a pair they want to sell me?

Matt

Leaving the wire keepers out was common. Over the years Honda changed the thinkness of the parts (steel and friction dics) so the keepers wouldn't fit into the grooves. We didn't experence any bad effect when we left them out years back. ............LM

I guess I'll try again... I did commute for a year with what is now my parts engine and it was missing the retaining rings, clutch never was very good and the window of adjustment was small but I did manage to put about 8000 miles on it in 9 months...

If someone wants to sell or trade me for some I'll do a report of clutch performance with and without...

Matt

Honda has changed freom the all fiber friction dics to the lines aluminum ones and they are what I think is the cure for bad clutch. .............LM

Ladies (any ladies on the list?) and gentlemen. I took my frustratingly unadjustable clutch apart again and installed a wire clutch retaining clip a local buddy donated to my cause. Just the first one, as he only had one. Now my clutch works great!

I admit, I didn't have a test group, placebo or weeks of repetitions to validate my findings but hey, the clutch worked great first try at adjustment.

Matt
