Petcock Screws....again

Post by Kigsby » Wed Mar 20, 2013 1:40 pm

I know this has been asked, and I've searched and read the previous posts, but I'm still confused about what size screw I need for my 1962 CA77 petcock. It looks like it may be different size screws for different years. I bought a M5 0.8 pitch 25 but they don't fit. I goes in just so much and then it won't go any further and I don't want to force it and mess up the threads. The Honda dealer said I just need a regular M6 x 25 but that didn't fit. I think I may need a JIS M5 0.9 x 25 but I can't find them anywhere so I thought I would first confirm that that is the correct size for my bike and 2nd, where can I get them? Ohio Cycle? Thanks for your help!

Kigsby,
You're correct, you need the M5 .09x25 JIS screws, the M6 won't work. Give Ohio Cycle a call and ask if they have them (part# 93500-05035).

I drilled and tapped mine out to use an M6 1.0x25 cap screw (the type of screw that needs an allen wrench to tighten it with), so I'll never have to worry about finding them little screws again.

Hope this helps,
Tinman

Thank you Tinman! Yes, that helps - exactly what I needed to know (and even a part number!) Fantastic! I'll give Ohio Cycle a call and see if they have any. If not, I may have to tap it like you did. Appreciate the help.
