Although converted now to look just like a stock SuperHawk, this 1962 bike started its life as a CBM72 - a Domestic variant of the 247cc SuperHawk. Unlike the majority of CB72/77 bikes, the CBM came with a Type II motor - with a 360 degree crank. This one, restored by Steve Lodefink, was once equipped with the high crossbar (CL77) handlebars, a 34 tooth rear sprocket and a knobby rear tire. It has been reported that the Type II motor with a dual carburator setup is quite a performer. Apparently, these motors rev up quicker than their Type I counterparts which explains why the CYP77 Police bikes used the 305cc version of this setup. A few more CBM72 bikes have surfaced through the VJ Survey, but they are quite scarce... |
