Starter Clutch question.......

Your two cents won't pay for the parts you recommend.
Although they don't cost a lot why waste money when they are good to use?
Or maybe you will pay for them so the feller can have new ones. ........lm

Tom has some new springs on there way to me.....will see if this quits things down.

If you are going through the hassle of replacing the starter clutch springs, you should sure as hell spend the other $10-15 and replace the rollers and cups while you're in there, especially since you can buy them from your local HONDA dealer. Just my two cents.

I know you've seen more starter clutches than I have, but in the 25+ Super Hawks and Dreams I've taken out of mothballs, I have serviced the starter clutch in every one of them and never had to replace any of the rollers. Had to replace just a few of the spring caps and almost all of the springs.

At the rate I'd be replacing good parts with NOS I'd use up a lot of parts for no good reason. .........lm

I've been into only three of these bikes and one of them had rollers so pitted that I could not have reinstalled them, I had two caps that were also suspect so I replaced them all, and nearly every spring was broken. So there is my frame of reference.

I've done a few more than that and I would/do replace bad parts as you describe.
But I don't waste the bike/engine owners money by replacing perfectly good parts. ......lm

As each of us offer advice (especially when we think/suspect they have the $$$ we have) I keep in mind that at times some parts never wear out but others in that area do and in my opinion it usually isn't necessary to replace every part unless it is only offered as a unit.
To me your message would/could have others think that the only way to fix the starter sprocket area (my two cents worth) is to buy parts to replace possibly perfectly good parts because a person on the forum (you have a high number of messages to your listing) is an expert on the subject at hand.
No UNCLE requested just keep in mind that others rely on our recommendations and in this case I feel you meant well but the cost to another may not be necessary. .....:-). ......lm

Man....I'm glad we have that squared away now. If....if I do need new starter clutch parts....does anyone have the part #s for them? Hope this doesn't "start" another landslide...lol.
