I've noticed that some Dreams have the cable routed through the frame and behind the side cover to come out and go into the case further near the back. (like mine) I too ordered a cable that was correct to my serial number but when I got it, it was far too short. By pure chance I had won a side cover off of the Bay (mine had a broken screw flange ) that had the opening towards the centre and fit the routing of the new cable. (straight up and through the forks ). As long as the chrome elbow is about six inches I'd say the 53 inch goes for the hidden style cable and the 40 inch goes for the straight up and into the fork style, or is it up and through the gas tank. Can anybody clarify this? Regards, Jeff.

I route mine along the frame under the tank. Also, are your tank badges on the wrong way?
