I like the end product. I'm going with the firestone blems myself. I'm wondering which road you took for your hubs? I have been reading many posts on this subject. Some bead blast, some powdercoat, some get out the goops and rags and start polishing. I can't decide what is best for me. The bike is all torn down and now is my best chance to make it happen. I'm going with the Tai rims. I have read the posts on these as well so I'll cross that bridge... Anyway just wondering how you handled it?
Don't know what method Kevmcp used, but I soda blasted mine, used some fine steel wool to smooth out and Never Dull as a top coat.
I was more interested in it looking clean than shiny.
I hate sandpaper, but it works if you have the patience.

I just talked to universal and they put me on a waiting list for a new rear tire.(about 3-6 months) I think I will order the inserts and have them ready just in case riding season gets here before the tires. Thanks for the info-they look great!

Tire size

Post by mschehen » Thu Sep 16, 2010 12:56 pm

Hey what size tires are you running? Mine still has the original tires and they are 325-16 rear and 825-16 front. Mike from universal has a 350-16 that he says guys are running front and rear but my bike is pretty tight clearance wise so I wonder if they might be too wide? Also will changing to a shorter front tire change the handling?

Thanks

Ok I am an idiot. After measuring and looking again both tires are 325-16. The front sidewall was pretty scuffed on the size printing and the 3 looked like an 8. I ordered the blackwalls from Coker and the inserts from universal. Should be here next week. Thanks again for the info.
ps
I enclosed a pic of bike, got it about 6 months ago, had been in storage for almost 30 years. The original owners son had it as she had died and left it to him. Had 3900 miles on it when I picked it up. Carb was frozen so I rebuilt it and it fired right up. Glad I found this forum-lots of great information on here
