I recently picked up a CB72 rolling chassis and it had a (rusty) chrome chain guard on it. I don't recall seeing a chrome chain guard on a Hawk or Superhawk. My actual '64 CB72 has a black chain guard and frame, upper shocks, headlight shell, etc. Where does a chrome chain guard fit in to the series?
Thanks; Beth

Chrome CBs
Yup, there certainly was the odd all-chrome CB! Never seen one in the raw, myself; but I've seen pics and read stories.
Here's the nicest pic I've seen, and it's what made me get all obsessive about getting myself another CB77 after more than 30 years.
Ha! I just noticed that there's a bolt missing from the muffler and no rear footpegs. I can't tell you how many times I've drooled over this one. Apparently the owner is a (ex-?)NASA guy.

I suspect a PO had yours chromed, as they were lightly primered from the Honda parts' departments. How good is the finish? Would it polish up or is it too far gone? You could stick it on eBay and get another to paint up.
Stories abound that the chromed CBs weren't all that nice a quality finish. They were apparently 'dealer specials' near the end of a model's production run, but the one in the pic pre-dates '66, so maybe the guy had it all done himself. The paint on the casings, as much as I like it, is a non-std colour too, I'd say.
