Got this bike in Feb 2012. Pretty much unmolested, 5 K miles, engine locked with extensive rust on R. side where it sat under edge of shed for 32 years. Have torn down to frame, engine on bench, parts labeled. First step was sandblasting frame and all sheet metal.
Now spraying first coats of enamel and doing body work glazing. After frame will move to engine overhaul, restoring all trim, then electrical.
When I was four (1963) a teenage friend of the family gave me a ride on his 305. I followed the CA110's, Dreams, CB's, etc all through the sixties and seventies and always liked this style Honda. Along the way I have owned a pristine 750 four, a CL125, and a very nice Cub 70. I plan to keep this 305 for personal enjoyment and my goal when done is a solid bike that looks good. Update 1Restored the handlebars today. Originally I was going to trash them but on second inspection decided to save them. I want to re use as much original parts as possible.
1) Cleaned everything and rust spots with steel wool. 2) Reworked wiring/switches/contactors 3) Buffed out perches, switches, levers with jewelers rouge. Wowzer! 4) Straightened the bars. Right handle grip was 1.5 inches higher than left. Have them within 1/32" now. 5) Cleaned and serviced original throttle cable and throttle slide... both excellent shape. First pic below shows perches buffed and not, side by side. Next will clear coat everything and spot touch paint the small rust spots on underside. I am happy with decision to rework the bars. Will keep the aftermarket Grand Turismo grips...my 750 four had them and I like them.

#2 Petcock RepairDid the messed up petcock repair today...in and out. It was totally clogged, crudded, etc. I did use a rebuild kit. If doing over again I would just order a ebay petcock replacement. This was the biggest hassle on doing the bike.

Tires and trimWell,...I'm down to ordering all the detail goodies....found a great deal on Firestone 4 ply vintage tires and also got NOS peg rubbers, badges, NGK plug boots, latch knobs, etc. Pics below.

Clear CoatBomb small parts... clear from quart on large parts like frames. (Rustoleum auto grade)
Update..Lights, camera, actionLights, camera, action....got the wiring and wheels done. Everything works first try! This is starting to look like something and I'm pleased. Pics posted....
