Oil Filter Slinger cap

Should the cap on the oil filter come off easily? Doing some maintenance on the bike, and can not get it to budge. I'm afraid to use a punch from the other side, as I don't want to distort the aluminum. Suggestions? Thanks!

Yes they can be a bugger......

You can try and soak it with penetrating oil but you will still probably have to drive it apart with a punch.

Something blunt like a 1/4 drive extension works well.

The last one I did I had to hit so hard I distorted the hole and had to fix it with a reamer....

After much soaking in penetrating oil and heat mine still didn't move, so I made a tool to pull it out, no damage was caused. I will look for it and post a picture if you are interested.

When they are stubborn I have used a blind bearing puller.

+1 to the blind hole puller that would work much better than a punch....

If you don't have one an auto zone will rent them out.

So an update. I used my bearing puller, and it came out no problem.
